Yab Yum form a very sophisticated, well-known brothel to a very nice and pleasant to the eye ... museum.



Yab Yub doesn't have to be introduced, I think everyone knows what it means, the Buddhist's symbol of Yab Yum speaks for itself.

I visited Yab Yum four times since I arrived to Holland, must admit, weird and interesting place. People said, once it had been a very „sophisticated”one, they are right. It still is yet as a museum.

The place's got its climate, the interior slightly dimmed, with seep stairs leading you, up, up to the rooms.

All's art-deco style, one enters Yab Yum and soon gets used to it, starts loving its „,modernity”

The rooms are small, big, bigger than big, with dancing poles, simply … diversification of all sort.

I like the „blue room” with the gigantic bed, some sofas, and a dancing pole. The space in this room is overwhelming, it kills the silence. The YY person told me;

• The girls could refuse … you know … excuses, yet, they could always dance … not such a big deal.

I think it is not a big deal … if I were a guest … paid E12.000 for a champagne, E3.000 for being with a girl, dancing would be enough, wouldn't it?

I imagined fat cats, money that were pouring into YY's pocket – and the sophistication of expectations flavoured with the most expensive alcohol. My imagination worked really good.

I was told Yab Yum was not that bad, it was all before some incidents in 2006 happened – it was not „vulgar” as my guide called it – it was a very expensive brothel, the best in Europe, with its reputation, it was business – clean business till 2002 when some incidents started taking place.

Taking into consideration the fact that the girls could eat, change, take a shower, sleep, take care of themselves in the vicinity of Yab Yum, makes this place very good, while the prostitution in Holland is fully legalized, it was the best place for them.

What was a reason of its closure? Girls, drugs, and money laundering. Huge amounts of money and women. As YY person told me:

• Lots of beautiful women were working here, from all parts of the world, Poland as well. In fact Polish girls, according to me, and not only, are the most beautiful, and those walking beauties were problems sometimes, men were crazy. They'd kill to please them, to have them. Women!

The YY is no longer a brothel, and probably will never be again yet it serves as a museum now. It is an extraordinary place worth to be seen, just to know, it was a part of Amsterdam ever since … it was a part of its night life – above the chandellier.
