My "short" trip to .... Delfzijl

I decided I have not have been giving myself a chance to go for trips. Always some excuses, namely, I mostly want to do many things at once. But how? I do not have a clone who'd help me to be in all places at the same time.

  • I was thinking and thinking and at last decided, Weronika, if you wanna go somewhere, let it be far away, so you not only see one place but can get  out of the train and sight seeing other towns as well.
  • NS Trains have great connection, whenever you want to go you reach your destination, no matter how long does it take and how many changes of trains it involve.
  • My trip to Delfzijl was realy long, I started from Amersfoort - a nice pleasant town, not too big, it was my first stop. What I liked was the Eem river and Koppelpoort (gate). I was there till next train arrived - about 40 minutes.
  • Another stop was Zwolle, I have been in Zwolle before, it was half a year ago, when I was going to Noord Brabant. I was really happy I visited this town again, unfortunately I just made my walk though the main street and return to the train station, so I was, but I wasn't sight seeing as planned before, there was no time.
  • From Zwolle I headed for Groningen, I was not a long trip, the train went an hour or so, I was reading, I was looking through the window at endless rural areas all around.  In Groningen I was killing my feet to catch the train to Dalfzijl, I was a minute before it took off. I felt as if I had been standing still, but, hell, I was running like a speedo-torpedo. Another hour passed quickly and finally, here I am ... I got out of the train, left the train station behind me and saw ...I saw the see. I saw the endless North Sea and the German border, the marine one  is invisible, even though I saw Germany.
  • Delfzijl - the city looked so nice, organized, small, cosy, picturesque, with mini-cottages, mini-market place, mini-church, everything was "mini" expect the poort which in comparison to the delicate frame of the city was gigantic, rough  made of steel and concrete, hostile, harsh and bloody - windy all the time. With some ships docked into, looked deserted, actually all the town looked like the poort - empty, maybe it is because of the season, Fall had come, people no longer strolled along the sandy beach, the long piers. I guess so - no weather, no time. I liked it but after being there almost two hours I wanted to go back home to Amsterdam, maybe because it was so small, so away form Amsterdam, so grey and sad (presumably because of the weather, in the summer everything looks better) I felt as if I had been in a village not in the town.
  • So I took the train back and went more or less the same way, from Delzijl to Groningen, from Groningen to Amersfoort, and then Amsterdam.
  • My ticked - long time forgotten was suddenly twice checked and punched. Luckily the way back not forth :)
